Footprint Introduction

 Activity: Our first project was a footprint to introduce ourself with things that are important to me and that I enjoy. We used three different types of media to explain pieces of our life. I chose things that represented who I am and how little pictures can represent a part of my life. The sunset shows how much I enjoy chasing sunsets and the beauty of them. Next is the palm tree and waves to show how I want to spend my vacations and time is at the beach. My next picture is the airplane that shows how much I love to travel and see the world with my family. The volleyball represents a huge part of my life and the sport that changed my life in so many ways. The t shirt cloth shows my love for clothing and designing my own sense of style. The wand represents my favorite movie which is Descendants and its all about the good and bad of fantasy stories. The Minnesota shows where I am from and the place that built me into who I am.


Extension Activity: After the students also complete their own footprints about who they are, we will place each one on the ground in a trail like way. We will then have the students "walk a day in someone else shoes" which will have each student talk about their footprint as we walk in our trail.

Clay Lesson

Activity:  This clay lesson we learned how to knead the clay and then used a template to cut out a that background square. After we had to add an element that stuck out of the clay that represented us. We also had to add an element that dug into the clay. I chose a shooting star because I am a bright person and I thought that represented well.  Extension Activity:  When students are making these we can make a Christmas ornament or a mothers and fathers day present instead. We can write a letter to someone and make it into a present during a celebration in our classroom.

Vincent Van Gogh Collages

  Activity: We talked about Van Gogh's paintings and accomplishments that he made throughout his life. For the project we created a background using different colors of tissue paper. I used sunset colors of red, orange, pink and a hue of pink to create the background to look like a sunset behind mountains. Then for my landscape I made mountains with snow on them to create a mountainous and then added texture through lines with oil pastels like Van Gogh did with his work.  Extension Activity: For this project we could do we could have the students make a story scene with their painting as the "setting" of their own story. They could then share the stories and characters in their story to their classmates.

Paper Lesson

 Activity: For this paper lesson we learned about Picasso and then we colored a template of a face with one side a side view and the other a front view. We then colored the face with different materials like colored pencil, pastels, and markers. We then cut them down the middle both ways and switched two of the four pieces with our table partners. After we cut the 4 little pieces into geometric and organic shapes and saw how different they can be even with the same template.  Extension Activity: After the students complete this same activity we can write down ways their face and their partners is different. This lesson can be integrated with learning about uniqueness and talking about how everyone is so different from each other.
